Janet & John Devine were the loveliest people and close friends with my mom. We spent several holidays together and enjoyed spending time with them. I'm sure the family is saddened by their loss and wish for healing and peace to them.

Losing your parents, even in adulthood, can make one feel like an orphan, but we aren´t really because they are just waiting for us to join them beyond the veil. We are left with memories and sadness but that too will pass away when we are reunited. Rest in His wonderful Peace Janet. Bless you Cecilia, Andrew and Melissa. All my love, Dawn Byrne Zarate

I met Janet as a fellow parishioner of St. Patrick's in Merced. When I attended my first retreat at St. Clare's Retreat Center in Soquel, Jan was part of the group. We also shared nursing as a profession. The following is part of the Florence Nightingale Tribute to Nurses. It's often part of a funeral service or memorial.
SHE WAS THERE
When a Calming, Quiet Presence Was All That Was Needed, She Was There.
In the Excitement and Miracle of Birth or in the Mystery and Loss of Life,
She Was There.
When a Silent Glance Could Uplift a Patient, Family Member or Friend,
She Was There.
At Those Times When the Unexplainable Needed to Be Explained, She Was There.
When the Situation Demanded a Swift Foot and Sharp Mind, She Was There.
When a Gentle Touch, a Firm Push, or an Encouraging Word Was Needed, She Was There.
In Choosing the Best One from a Family's "Thank You" Box of Chocolates,
She Was There.
To Witness Humanity, It's Beauty, In Good Times and Bad Without Judgment
She Was There.
To Embrace the Woes of the World, Willingly, and Offer Hope, She Was There.
And Now That It's Time to Be At the Greater One's Side, She is There.
RIP Jan.

I am so sorry to hear of Janet's passing. I worked with her at MCMC from 1974 until retirement. She is now with her one and only love John. They are peacefully in the presence of God. Bless all of you as you mourn your parents.
