Charles Askanas Obituary

Resident of Saratoga
Charles Askanas, 84, born in the Bronx, N.Y., beloved husband of Lita Askanas for 57 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Feb. 11, 2015. Besides his wife Lita, Charles is survived by his two sons, Dean Askanas and Mark Askanas, Mark's wife Aynah, and granddaughters Isabelle and Anna Askanas, who adoringly called him "Papa". He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by parents, Martin and Anna Askanas and brother Arthur Askanas.
Joining the Army in 1952, Charles served honorably during the Korean War, and when he returned to the U.S. he attended college on the G.I. Bill earning a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University.
Charles and Lita married in 1957 and moved to California in 1963 when he accepted a position at Fairchild. In the decades that followed, he founded and was Chief Executive Officer of several successful Silicon Valley companies. He enjoyed his meaningful volunteer work for several years after he retired.
He was an avid reader, and enjoyed skiing, tennis and golf throughout most of his life.

Charlie and his Quantor team hired me when Silicon Valley was taking off. I will remember his kindness and sense of humor. Thanks to him, I was able to continue with the organization long after he sold it - surviving a total of 4 sales.

Our heart and prayers go out to the Askanas family. Charlie you know how dear you were to me. I feel so blessed that you and Lita were able to attend both of our little boys baptisms. I never tired of hearing stories and jokes from you. And it's impossible to think of my childhood without all of the company picnics we went to! You and Lita have always been so special to me. I am blessed to have known you. xo

I will miss him playing his violin, his great jokes, his honking his horn in the neighborhood on Sunday mornings, when he was picking up the Tennis group. I wil never forget the welcoming party Lita and Charles made for us when we moved into our home, when they didnt even know us. I will never forget the way he picked up Gary for many lunches when Gary was very ill and how sad
Charlie felt when he had to stop taking Gary.
I will never forget how proud and happy he was when he was able to help people with their careers in SCORE. So many wonderful parties we had in that neighbrhood....And then....it gradually stopped when so many of our dear friends passed...and now Charlie..the life of all the parties. I'm hoping
I can help Lita find her way gradually.
I know how very proud Charlie was of
Dean and Mark, Inah, Isabel and Anna. I send all of you my condolences . I'm writing all this because I know when I see you, Iwill be speechless. With lots of love, Alfreda
