Constance "Connie" Brooding

1928 - 2022

Connie Brooding passed away on Saturday, July 9 at the age of 94. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A third generation Californian, Connie was born in San Francisco, the older daughter of Boris and Mary Herman. After graduating from Lowell High School, she attended UC Berkeley where she joined the Alpha Phi sorority. Over the years, Connie continued to maintain close, loving friendships with many of her sorority sisters. While at Cal she also met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Brooding. The two of them were married in 1950 and had three children. After living briefly in the East Bay, she and Dick moved the family to Saratoga in 1959 where they set down deep roots. Connie's first priority was always her family, but she found time to be actively involved in numerous community activities, including the Foothill Club, the Junior League of San Jose, and the Summit League. She and Dick were founding members of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Connie was a founding volunteer of the Echo Shop, an elegant resale shop run by St. Andrew's in downtown Saratoga. When not volunteering, she and Dick were spending time with family and friends at their vacation home on Donner Lake or travelling the world over. They were avid skiers, tennis players, hikers, and bridge aficionados. On her own, Connie was a fabulous cook and inveterate needle pointer and knitter.

Connie is survived by her daughters, Mary Brooding and Bree Klotter, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Dick Brooding, on June 15, 2022, and by her son, David. A memorial service for both Connie and Dick will be held at St. Andrew's on August 27th.
