Dick Brooding Obituary

In Loving Memory
Dick & Connie Brooding
Long-time residents of Saratoga, Dick and Connie Brooding have both passed away this summer. Dick passed away on June 15 and Connie followed him on July 9. Dick was born in Oakland, California in January, 1925. Connie was born in San Francisco in February, 1928. The two of them met while students at UC Berkeley in the late 1940s. They married in 1950 and had three children, David in 1951, Bree in 1952 and Mary in 1955.
Dick and Connie moved to Saratoga in 1959 where they proceeded to raise their family. Over the years, Connie was active with numerous volunteer organizations, including Girl Scouts, Summit League, Junior League and the Foothill Club. Dick was active with the Santa Clara Rotary, serving as president at one point, and the Men's Foothill Club.
Dick and Connie were very early members of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church and were active in the Church throughout their lives. Dick was an usher for years. Connie was one of the founders of the Echo Shop, an upscale resale shop in downtown Saratoga that raises money for outreach to Santa Clara county.
The two of them were inveterate travelers, always one step ahead of the "best places to travel" list. They travelled the world over, hitting every continent at one point or another. And of course, they used their passion for snow-skiing, hiking, tennis and bridge to inform their national and international travel plans. If they weren't travelling or in Saratoga, the two of them could be found at their cabin at Donner Lake. Neither of them were likely to sit still for long.
Dick and Connie are survived by their two daughters, Mary Brooding and Bree Klotter, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They were proceeded in death by their son, David. A memorial service for both Dick and Connie will be held at St. Andrew's on August 27th.
