Jerome "Jerry" Rose

Jerome (Jerry) Rose, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023, in San Jose, California, at the ripe old age of 93. He is survived by daughter, Kay Dye (Bill Dye) and step-son Marc Manning (Liz Cano-Manning) from marriage to Winkie, and step-sons Robert Mueller (Carol) and Ronald Mueller, from marriage to Emma Jo, as well as grandchildren: Alexis Manning, Isaac and Joshua Dye, great-grandchildren: Lily and Logan Dye. He had many beloved nieces and nephews who comforted him in his last days.Jerry was a well-known and liked small business owner in east San Jose, first buying a diner called Pat & Dee's at age 21, with little to start but a good family name, and big hopes and dreams. Soon after opening the restaurant, Jerry opened Alum Rock Hardware Building and Supply Co, with partner Stan Faraday. He worked 6 days a week - the hardware store during the day and the diner at night. In that same period he also began service in the National Guard, which allowed him to attend to the 2 growing businesses. He thoroughly enjoyed serving in the guard - in munitions and later as an MP, for a total of 7 years. The hardware store did so well that he sold the restaurant after 5 years, realizing that the hardware store was his niche in the community. AlumRock Hardware catered to Portuguese-speaking customers, local school districts, building trades persons and professional gardeners. It was the kind of place where men gathered daily just to socialize. Later, Stan retired and Dennis Ventry became his business partner. Jerry co-owned the store for 42 years, and then the store was bought by nephew, Wayne RoseJerry enjoyed his retirement years with many trips to Reno, Las Vegas, and Laughlin, as well as his vacation home on the Upper Sacramento River with wife Jo.
