Louise McIntyre Obituary

Louise S. McIntyre May 13, 1942 - July 2, 2008 On Wednesday, July 2, Lou McIntyre of Los Gatos, died with her family at her bedside at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose after a 22-year battle with breast cancer. Self-described as a strong personality, courageous, loyal, loud, and funny, Lou enjoyed "better days and little things," including time spent with family, her home, and her mother's snickerdoodle recipe. Friends both old and new remember Lou as a person who made everyone feel special, always taking an interest in others in spite of her own struggles. "I try to help people when they need me," she has said. "Some days that's easier than others, but I always try to remember that each person's problems are significant to them." A dedicated volunteer and an active member in the community, Lou approached her interests with passion and intensity. She held leadership positions as a parent volunteer for her daughters' school and extra-curricular activities. She also held managerial positions for the Butter Paddle, a boutique in Saratoga whose profits benefit Eastfield Ming Quong, a leading provider of services for troubled children and their families. Lou was born in Washington, D.C., to parents Gerard Bernard Slebos and Dorothy Lee Boulware. She lived in Bethesda, Md. Scarsdale, N.Y., and Western Springs, Ill. before moving to California with her family in 1980. Lou graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Oh., with a Bachelor of Arts in education. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She is survived by Wayne McIntyre, her husband of 41 years; daughters, Kelly Duvall and Kim McIntyre, both of San Jose; and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emily. Other survivors include brother, William Slebos of Durham, N.C.; step-sister, Marcy Willey of Grand Haven, Mich.; step-brother, Dick Southworth of Sandpoint, Id.; and step-mother, Louise Slebos of Juno Beach, Fla. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Saratoga Federated Church, 20390 Park Place, Saratoga. A celebration of life will take place immediately afterward at Saratoga Country Club, 21990 Prospect Road, Saratoga. Contributions in memory of Lou may be made to Eastfield Ming Quong Children and Family Services, either online at http://emq.org or by mail at 251 Llewellyn Ave., Campbell, CA 95008.

Lou, My family and I will miss you tremendously. I will never forget your voice when saying,"Hi, how are you" and your dry sense of humor. You were a second mom to me growing up and will always remain in my heart and will never be forgotten.

I'll miss you so, Lou. We struggled and chuckled through so much together over the years. You were a treasure as a friend, wife, mother and beloved grandmother. I can still see those precious little girls climbing all over you in your favorite chair! You will be missed but, like others, I am grateful for the time we had. My love to you all, Wayne, Kelly, and Kim. Maureen Coleman
