Resident of Los Gatos
Mari Mendizabal, 97, was born in Galdacano in Spain's Basque Country, and took great pride in her heritage. Her mother, Felipa died in childbirth. Her father, Basilio Loro¤o came to the United States when Mari was 6 and brought his family to San Francisco 10 years later. It was there she met her future husband, Seferino ("Bosco"), they married and had 3 sons.
Preceded in death by Bosco (1966), her eldest son Albert (2008) and middle son, J. Michael (2010). She is survived by her son Robert, his wife Linda, and daughter-in-law, Bette; loving grandchildren Michael (Nancy), Michelle (Mark), Reymond (Jackie), Yvonne (Mike), Marisa (Hector), Greg (Jenny) Matthew, Oona, Anisa (Karen) and Marcos (Natalya); adored great-grandchildren Nicole (Emo), Christopher (Claire), Jackie (Cesar), Simone, Nicholas, Mari, Kira, and Alexa.
Beloved by family and friends, Mari will be forever remembered for her love of family, good nature, generosity, understanding, patience, kindheartedness, and ability to make anyone who came to her home feel welcome and loved. Happiest when her family was around the dinner table enjoying each other's company (but no arguing!), this amazing woman worked fulltime and could cook Christmas Eve dinner for 30 family members while juggling the youngest grandchild on her hip.
A Rosary Service will be held at 7PM (viewing to begin at 5pm) on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 12:45 pm, on Friday, December 16, 2011, at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, 15333 Woodard Rd., San Jose, CA.

Grandma, I will always remember you in the little things I do everyday. You taught me so much about family, giving and loving unconditionally. I will miss the stories you told us about your childhood in the Basque Country. You were the best teacher in my life. I will miss you so much. Love, Jackie Mendizabal

I was always amazed that Mari would immediately remember me even after a long period of time. She was always so kind and always treated me as family. She was the head of a very large wonderful family and I am glad to have known her.
