I had Professor Bean for several classes at SJSU in the 1970s. 45 years later, I still remember him as one of my favorite teachers of all of my educational years. I remember him to this day as a big influence on my chosen career and profession.
If you are ever asked if he made a difference, the answer is more than you’ll ever know.

This is very strange. I woke up early this morning thinking about my days at SJSU. I graduated from the business school in 1991. My thoughts went to my absolute favorite professor of all time, Professor Bean. I took a business law class from him one semester and absolutely loved it. Most of my classes were dry and boring but not his class. He was amazing. I loved the class so much that I signed up for every class of his I could. He was engaging, funny, and his classes flew by. I seriously considered becoming a lawyer solely on my experience with Professor Bean. I did not end up being a lawyer, but I did become a teacher. I teach high school math and have tried to make my class fun and engaging just like Professor Bean did. I am sorry to hear about his passing even though it was 8 years ago. I have no idea if this link is still up or if anyone will get this message, but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed him and his classes. As a teacher, let me tell you, he must have been amazing if I am thinking about him 30 years after taking his class. I hope you and your family are all staying safe in these tough times.

I see Dr. Laurie added his comment. Dr. Laurie was another fine professor of mine. We had some great scholars and professors in the 60's. I was fortunate to have Dr. Laurie, Marshall Bean and Dr. Jack Holland as my instructors in the 1960's. What great memories and some sorrow at the same time. Jack Holland wrote a great letter for my to future employer and as a result, I got the job and then left before I was promoted to CEO and then eventually founded my own company.
I need to go back for homecoming one of these days and rekindle the Spartan spirit. Really miss everyone. Thanks to these great people who advanced my career and made me appreciate what I have today. Clay White, Business School, Class of 1963.

Professor Bean was one of my favorite instructors at SJSC. I took Bus. Law from him in 1963. As a young College student I never knew about his accomplishments and feel honored that I was able to learn from him and know so much more about him. I have a heavy heart as I read about his death. San Jose State should be as proud as I am to have known him and had him as a Professor. Many thanks and God bless the family. I graduated in 1963 and was also honored to have Jack Holland as my advisor in the business school and he too, has passed on. I miss both of these fine people. What a tribute to San Jose State University.

I attended San Jose State University and was in several of the classes where Professor Bean taught legal principles in business and real estate. He was a great teacher and a profound influence on my decision to continue my studies at SJSU and continue on to law school. I then became an attorney and I continue to think of him often as one of the persons in my life that had such a positive influence on me. I saw him once as he was driving somewhere and I had hoped to see him again and thank him for his kind words of encouragement and guidance.

I am so sorry for your loss. Prof. Bean was one of my favorite instructors at SJSU. I was often the miscreant in his exam questions ( probably because I was his only older student). He was so witty, and spot on, we learned business law effortlessly. He will be missed.

I worked as a receptionist/secretary back in the late '70s in Marshall's office. He always had time to chat, to tell a silly joke, or just generally help my day go by pleasantly. My deepest sympathies to the family. What a great guy!

I had the privilege to work in a suite of law offices with Mr. Bean first as a law clerk then an attorney. Marshall was always helpful, kind and supportive. He would tease about women lawyers, and my social life, but in fact was open-minded and progressive. His family and friends are in my thoughts. In deepest sympathy,

Mr. Bean was always a loving dad; he was a fine example of true success as his work and family life were happy and rewarding for all involved.
His family home seemed to have a magnetic draw for us, the lucky friends of the family. He was a happy person who was always generous and welcoming.
He is truly and deeply missed by those of us who were fortunate to have felt his special spirit. That smile of his will always be first thing I remember.

I had the honor of sharing office space for a number of years with Marshall going back to 1980. He was a great lawyer, friend, racquetball player and teacher. He wasn't too bad at liar's dice down at Manny's Cellar either. He will be sorely missed. Deepest sympathy to Nancy and the family.

I met your husband and father when I was 18 or 19 and took my second job after high school and heald's business with Overson, Bean, and Hardy in downtown San Jose. Don't remember Hardy at all, and Mr. Overson was a funny but very gruff presence. Mr. Bean, however, was another story. Kind and friendly, smart and handsome. Had I needed a lawyer, he would've been one I would have wanted to represent me. I just wanted to share from decades and decades ago (i'm now 65) what sweet memories come up. God Bless him and all of you as you grieve his loss. I wish you wonderful memories to last a lifetime. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with him.

To the Bean family, it wasn't just about the candy runs to the Donner store, or the passing grade in Business Law, it was how he treated everyone, young and old with dignity. We've passed on his fastest hand game to the next generation.

We had a pleasant friendship of some 55 years both in our neighborhood and as colleagues at San Jose State. He was highly intelligent and witty and much enjoyed by his students.

I'm sorry to read about the recent passing away of Marshall Bean. Many years ago I had him as an Instructor in a Business Law class at SJSU. I felt that he was an enthuasiatic, interesting, and informative teacher. He was a fine gentleman and helpful to his students.
