Ronald Cressio Obituary

Ronald Raymond Cressio

Resident of San Jose

May 22, 1935 - Aug. 5, 2012

Also known as Ronnie, Mr. C, Dad C, Pops, Dude Whaler, and Grandpa.

Ron passed away at age 77 on a blue-sky Sunday morning. Born and raised in San Jose, he graduated from Bellarmine then married his beloved Nina, his wife of 58 years. He attended San Jose State University and was in the National Guard's Military Police. After a few years at Bank of America, he found his niche and favorite job as the Inheritance Tax Examiner of Santa Clara County. He concluded his 38 years working at the County as the Exemption Supervisor. His humorous retirement luncheon speeches from that time are legendary.

A brilliant orator and storyteller, he loved a good joke and entertained friends with wonderful tales. His resonant voice, large laugh, easy smile, and kind eyes will never be forgotten. He was happiest when singing and being with his family. Everyone who knew and loved him will dearly and deeply miss him. A finer man was never known.

A light has dimmed in the lives of his family: wife, Nina; children Stephanie (Blair), Lee (Tracy), and Kelly (Stefan); grandchildren: Domenica, Kerry, Jennifer, Vince, Ronnie, SamiJo, Hendrik, and Anton, and great-grandchildren: Tyler, Brandon, Kyle, and Shane. He was the cherished brother to Sharon Rodda (Jim), Carol Heitzig (Jim), and Sondra O'Halloran (Joe) and much-loved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Ron requested donations to St Jude Children's Research Hospital: www.stjude.org. The funeral services are private.

To the Cressio Family,

I just found out of Ron's passing and so sorry to hear of it.

I first met Ron when I worked in the Tax Collector's office when it was in the old building. He would sing and and always seemed so happy. Loved his fragrance of his pipe (which smelled so good). Then I started working in the Assessor's office and he became my boss. I was thrilled to have him as a boss. He was such a good person, friend and a lot of fun. I think of him every now and then. I miss the good times we had when he was my boss. You have lost a wonderful husband, father and uncle and we have lost a wonderful friend.

I worked for Ron in the Exemption Division for 20 years and he was a very special person, not just a boss but a friend. I think of him often

Ron Cressio hired me to work in the Exemption Division at the Assessors Office in 1986. I found myself thinking a lot of him lately as I am retiring this year. I was in the process of trying to find a way to send a note & thank him for that. It is with great sadness I came to find out a couple days ago of his passing. He was a great supervisor & a great man. My heart goes out to his dear family & friends. He had given me a recipe for a turkey stuffing years ago & I still make it every Thanksgiving.

To the Cressio Family,
I would like to offer our condolences on behalf of my father, Dwight Mathiesen, and our family. My father always thought very highly of Mr. Cressio and we appreciate the friendship that he maintained with him over the years.

Nina,
Ron was a wonderful man and his memory will never fade because of all the lives he
touched in such a positive way. As the exemption supervisor in the Santa Clara County
Assessor's office he interacted with all the church's and non-profit organizations with
his charming personality and humor. Ron, will be deeply missed by all but will be
consoled with all the fond memories we all have of Ron. May those cherished thoughts
warm our hearts for years to come. Nina our love and prayers are with you and your
family. In Sympathy, Al & Marian Carlson

To Nina and family,
Ron was very special, a true gentleman and an asset to the Assessor's Dept. I enjoyed his humorous stories and his bubbly personality. May he rest in peace.
