Shinji Momoki Obituary

Shinji Momoki
September 29, 1942 - July 11, 2022
Resident of San Jose
Shinji passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2022 at the age of 79. Shinji showed courage, dedication, and strength as he fought through lung cancer for over 2 years.
Shinji Momoki was born in Amagasaki, Hyogo-ken, Japan. He grew up during WWII and knew his dreams were bigger than his small town upbringing. Shinji took the opportunity to work overseas in the United States as a Japanese chef. His goal was to return to Japan in a few years. Love kept him in California.
Shinji's love for food and hospitality led to his success as a restaurateur. In his spare time â€" the ingenious craftsman that he was â€" Shinji built beautiful lamps, enjoyed singing karaoke, and collecting antique goods. In his retirement, Shinji loved to be with the community and became the neighborhood chauffeur. He enjoyed making people laugh and smile.
Papa Shinji is survived by his fraternal twin daughters: Eva and Shirley â€" who inherited his quick wit and entrepreneurial skills; his sister, Naoko; his brothers, Yoshihito and Kiyotsugu; and his nieces and nephew.
Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11AM, September 10, 2022 at the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin, followed by a reception and Japanese refreshments.
