Mrs. Shirley Bowman Hilton passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 26. 2017. She was at the El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California.
She was born August 2, 1930 in Blackfoot, Idaho of William Earl and Zina Campbell Bowman. She was only 12 years old when her mother died. Later she moved to Ogden, Utah with the Pete and Faye Piersanti family, where she graduated from High school there in 1948. She then earned her B.S. at Utah State Agricultural College (USU) in 1952.
While teaching at Delta High School she developed an annual dance recital that included most of the students at Delta High for 5 years. On December 21, 1957 she married W. Bruce Hilton in the LDS Temple in Saint George, Utah. Within a couple of years they moved the entire family to California residing in Sunnyvale and Saratoga with a four-year spell in Edzell, Scotland.
She was a fantastic homemaker and artist. Her fried chicken and gravy are famous. No one ever left her home hungry. Shirley was generous of spirit. Athletics, music, education and art were encouraged in the raising of her children with her husband. Her love of all sports continued throughout her life.
Shirley is survived by her husband, daughters-in-law and seven sons: William, Brent (JoAnn Doyle), Gary (Nancy Hilton), Bruce (Mariann), Brian, Shaun (Juli Christopher) and Russell (MaryAnn Vasquez). She has 23 grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death and her son, Richard, her sisters, Donna Wellard and an unnamed baby girl, and brothers, Edward, Gail, and William and Keith, Kent, and Kay as infants.
No formal funeral service is planned. However, there will be a viewing August 2, 2017 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills on 615 North Santa Cruz Avenue Los Gatos to meet with family members. Following the viewing, interment will be at the Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga, California at 2:00 p.m.
