Joel Barnett Obituary

Joel Scott Harrison Barnett, 27, died on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Saint Elizabeths Medical Center from cardiac arrest after being stricken at his residence two weeks ago. He was born in Boston on December 2, 1985 the beloved son of Loris Jean (White) Barnett and Dwight H. Barnett both of Boston. Besides his parents, Joel is survived by his siblings, Lael H. Barnett and Kalila M. Barnett both of Boston; Mallory L. Barnett of Hampton, VA and Caleb C. Barnett of Norwood. He is also survived by one niece, two nephews and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Joel was educated in his earlier years at the Nathan Hale Elementary School in Mattapan. He then attended the Wayland Middle School and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 2004. Upon graduation he attended Bridgewater State College. While at the Wayland schools he played basketball on the middle school team and for four years excelled as an athlete on the football field as a FB/LB for the Wayland Warriors. For several years he was the Administrative Assistant for Donelan Construction in Jamaica Plain. Most recently, Joel has been the Assistant Manager at the Boston Tea Party Museum Gift Shop at both the Boston and Faneuil Shop locations. Joel has always maintained his relationship with his Wayland friends and their families over the years. He was outgoing, had a wonderful sense of humor, a smile that would light up a room and was a loving and devoted son to his parents, faithful brother to his family and cherished uncle to his niece and nephews. He spent countless hours as a volunteer at the Boston Home in Dorchester and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitations will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm followed by his funeral service at 7:00 pm at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 38 Walk Hill Street, Jamaica Plain. Interment for his family will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester. In lieu of flowers his family kindly requests that donations in Joels memory be sent to The Boston Home, 2049 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, MA 02124 and would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of Wayland.
