John Higgins Obituary

John T. Higgins, 89, a longtime resident of Hudson and formerly of Harwich, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at EPOCH Senior Healthcare Center in Harwich. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Anna G. (Coleman) Higgins of Harwich, formerly of Hudson. John was born in Concord and raised in Maynard, son of the late John and Florence (Anderson) Higgins. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Maynard High School, Class of 1938. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, until being honorably discharged in March of 1946. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Hudson from 1953 until his retirement in 1984. John and his wife, Ann, enjoyed traveling together, especially after retirement, and he was an avid golfer. He was a member of Saint Michaels Parish in Hudson and Saint Pius X Parish in South Yarmouth. Besides his wife, Anna, John is survived by his two children, Ann Quinn and her husband, Robert, of Marlborough, and Thomas Higgins and his wife, Marcia, of Sudbury. He is also survived by his two sisters, Patricia Poteet of Michigan, Mary Higgins of Maynard; his brother, David Higgins of Maynard; his five grandchildren, Julie Augello of Franklin, Jeffrey Higgins and Kathleen Higgins, both of Sudbury, Andrew Quinn and Margot Quinn, both of Marlborough; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William, Walter, Edward, Charles, Richard and Timothy Higgins and Katherine Boyle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michaels Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michaels Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours are Monday, Feb. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc. (www.tighehamilton.com), 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749.

My childhood memories include your father. I remember him at the Hudson Post Office and also coming into Talbot's corner store. He was always kind and friendly to everyone. Please accept my sympathy for your loss.
