Margaret Geist Obituary

Margaret E. (Menard) Geist, 101, of Marlborough died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Hearthstone at New Horizons. She was the wife for 68 years to the late John C. Geist who died in 2006. She was born and raised in Pittsfield, the daughter of the late Clement and Evelyn (Robillard) Menard and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of every parish to which she belonged. In her last years, she was a member of St. Matthias Parish. She was outgoing, civic minded and very involved in Democratic politics as a young women. In later life, she enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She is predeceased by her sister, Jane Broyles and her brother, Donald Menard. She leaves a son, Jon C. Geist and his wife Cathie of Olney, MD; a daughter, Jan Krause Greene and her husband Tim of Bellingham; eight grandsons, Michael, James and Robert Geist and Harold, Jeremy, Karl, Neil and John Krause; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 11, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway Street. A reception for friends and family will immediately follow the Mass. Following cremation, burial will be held in the Geist Family Cemetery in Maryland. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. All are invited to sign her online guestbook at www.CollinsFuneral.com.
