PIQUA -- Robney Chilcoat, age 71, passed from this life on February 17, 2022. He was Robney, but everyone called him "Cappy". He lived a remarkable overcomer life, having battled serious epilepsy since birth. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Dyson, with whom Cappy lived until her death. He was very independent, and he was always interested in paying back the gift of life he had been given. He instructed swimming at the Piqua YMCA, and coached the Riverside School swim team. He and his mother hosted people in their home who had serious mental illness, helping them to gain their own independence.
In 1990, Cappy received the "miracle" of neuro surgery which abated the grand mal seizures he had suffered for many years. At the age of 50, many years after that surgery at the University of Cincinnati, Cappy earned his driver's license. Now he was able to help people in more ways- driving them to appointments, shopping, church etc. He could also drive to the various agencies where he volunteered. The Bethany Center in Piqua was his special love, and he served there for many years.
Cappy always looked for ways to help, and several years ago, Cappy was the Grand Marshall at a Piqua City parade which recognized him as Volunteer of the Year.
Cappy had a strong Christian faith, and freely shared it with all he came in touch with. His smile and his simple approach to life of giving back the gifts he had been given is a code we should all emulate.
A memorial service at the Piqua Bethany Center honoring Cappy's life, is being planned for a future date. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
We miss you already Cappy…

Never will I forget Cappy! He volunteered to help us take veterans to Washington,DC. I never had to ask him to do something he already was on it! I remember how he even directed traffic on a very busy street so that our veterans could cross safely. I am so thankful to call him my friend. God reward him richly is my prayer!

I was fortunate to meet Cappy when he volunteered at the Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development. He loved helping our clients, making a few friends along the way. Anytime he won money at bingo or with some scratch off lottery tickets, he would donate to the Center. Fly high Cappy!
