Barry Broussard Obituary

Barry Anthony Broussard, Sr.

1951-2014

Biloxi

Barry Anthony Broussard, Sr., loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Ocean Springs, MS.

Barry was born on September 18, 1951 in Biloxi, MS. He is a graduate of Biloxi High School Class of 1970. He completed an apprenticeship at Ingalls Shipbuilding, normally a five year program, in two and a half years. He was a Pipe Fitter by trade for 35 years, obtaining Foreman status. He was a finalist in a co-op program of engineering for Mississippi State University through Ingalls, finishing second out of 500 candidates. He was a lifelong member of the Fleur De Lis Society of Biloxi, MS. He was also an Eagle Scout. He was a charitable man, whether it be an organization, or for friends and family. One of his charitable acts was that he started a yearly scholarship fund at the Fleur De Lis Society, named in his mother's honor, to help send a person of French descent to college.

Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid football and baseball fan. His greatest joy came from raising his children. His biggest pride was that all three of his children were graduates of Mercy Cross High School, and that all three graduated from the three major Mississippi Universities. His greatest love was for his grandson, Kingston, who he will be rooting for this and all other baseball seasons.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Mary Wescovich-Broussard; father, Robley Paul "Babe" Broussard; and brother, Craddock "Buddy" Wescovich.

Survivors include his daughters, Amber Nichelle Broussard-Belue and her husband Brad Belue of Starkville, MS and Misty Leigh Broussard-Creel and her husband Wayne Creel, Jr. of Biloxi, MS; son, Barry Anthony Broussard, Jr. of Ocean Springs, MS; his only grandson, Kingston Leigh Widel of Biloxi, MS; sister, Shirley Broussard of Biloxi, MS; and brothers, Pete Broussard of Ocean Springs, MS, Mack Broussard of Ocean Springs, MS and George Broussard and his wife Marty of Lucedale, MS. He is also survived by his two closest friends, Roy Thibodeaux of Biloxi, MS and Henry Brodnax of Vancleave, MS.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to a scholarship that he wanted established. An account will be available at Bancorp South that we will name in his honor. This scholarship will help send someone in need to St. Patrick Catholic High School of Biloxi, MS.

Service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Michael's Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit one hour prior. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com

Thank you Mr. Barry for making me feel special by sharing stories of days spent with my parents and telling me how much I looked like my mom when I needed it the most. Who would have thought many years after your fun days at Perk with Mrs. Peggy and my parents that Misty and I would grow up to be best friends and make our own crazy memories. You definitely made a mark in my life and in my heart. I promise to pass on your memories to Kingston and my own children so they will know of the life long friendships our families share.
