Daryll Dowty Obituary

Daryll Dowty
09/02/2025
Daryll C. Dowty (77), of Bradenton, FL and formerly, Middletown, CT, beloved husband of Nancy (Buckley) Dowty, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Fall River, MA and raised in Somerset, MA, he was the son of the late Clifford and Claire (Slater) Dowty.
Daryll was a proud member of the Somerset High School, Class of 1965, rarely missing a reunion opportunity. He always loved a party of family and friends, preferably held by the shore whenever possible. He had a sailor's soul, always drawn to the sea whether it be boating, fishing, or dining with an ocean view. No party was complete without his famous clam chowder and claim boil. He also took every opportunity to sing and play guitar with friends. Daryll honorably served the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Bibb during the Vietnam War era. He later completed his post-graduate education at Central CT State University where he became a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Engineering Technology. Always an innovator, he notably supervised the university's Solar Electric Research Team, designing alternative energy vehicles winning several awards. In 2009, Daryll retired Professor Emeritus after a successful career spanning 3 decades. He and Nancy then moved to Bradenton, FL and spent several years enjoying beach life, Caribbean cruises, annual trips to Martha's Vineyard, volunteering at their local church, and spending as much time as possible with family and friends.
Besides his wife, Daryll is survived by his sons Timothy (Kristin) of Colchester, CT and Kevin (Stacie) of Seekonk, MAand his cherished grandchildren Andrew, Lindsay, Spencer and Connor. He also leaves behind brothers Gregg (Liz) of South Berwick, ME, Scott (Gloria) of Westminster, MA, sister-in-law, Jane, of Shelton, CT and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Daryll was predeceased by brother his Todd S. Dowty.
