Joan, may the angels stay close to you and surround you with their love and protection. May your heart be at peace knowing that the love that you and your husband Paul shared was a gift from god. Let that love help carry you in days ahead and be of comfort to you.

Eternal Rest Grant unto him, O Lord, and Let Perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Paul had Norwegian roots and studied Swedish with me. How we laughed! I had lovely sweet strawberries from his farm where Bill and I attended Wes Brown's wedding. Thanks, Paul.

I was saddened to hear of Paul's passing. We met when I came to work at Wesleyan in 1988 and he was always thoughtful, generous, and kind to me and my children. We have lost a fine professor, but if Heaven needs another teacher they were surely joyful on December 3rd.
