SISTINO MARSELLI Obituary

MARSELLI, SISTINO F. Sistino F. Marselli, 92, of Four Rod Road, Berlin, formerly of Middletown, husband of the late Anna (Siecienski) Marselli, died peacefully by his daughter’s side on Tuesday, March 17. He was born on March 1, 1923, in Middletown and was the son of the late Fiorindo and Mary (Trolio) Marselli. Known as “Stino,” he had been a life-long resident of Middletown and a member of St. Pius X Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, after which he had worked at Standard Knapp where he retired as a foreman after 43 years. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, had a love for birds, and was an avid UConn Women’s Basketball fan. He is survived by his loving family, two sons--John Marselli of Middletown and Mark Marselli of Guilford and his wife, Tracy; a daughter, Mary Monarca Webb of Berlin, and her husband, Homer Webb; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Corrinda Marsilli. He was predeceased by his daughter, Christine Marselli-LaRosa, the wife of Dan LaRosa; two brothers, Daniel Marselli and Francis Marsilli; and two sisters, Philomena D’Amato and Florence D’Amato. The funeral will be held Friday at 9 am from the Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home, 491 High Street, Middletown, followed by a mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius X Church at 10 am. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield, with full Military Honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 pm. He had more energy, compassion, and love than any man I ever knew and he was father to my late wife, Christine Marselli LaRosa. For that reason alone, I loved this man. His name was Sistino Marselli, and he was like a second dad to me. For 17 years, Stino and I lived together, and those were some of the best years of my life. He taught by example, and I learned so much from him about character, integrity, and compassion. After Christine passed away he continued to live with me, to comfort me, and to help me rebuild my life. Dad was a gentle soul who loved life and lived in an exemplary manner. Everybody loved Stino because Stino loved everybody. I will miss him everyday of my life but I will always remember him as someone who knew the true meaning of loving kindness.

We are very sorry for the loss of your father. We enjoyed seeing your family all together, with your father, at breakfast after church on Sunday mornings. Although I didn't know him, I could tell he was a good man... a real gentleman.

Stino, anytime you saw me riding my bike around the neighborhood, you always invited me up to the house. I remember many chats by the window and everything had a message and a piece of wisedom. I will never forget the day we had sent Christine home and the rainbows over the house appeared. You held my hand, and you said to me, "She loved you alot you know. You challenged her. She has passed the torch to you for you to carry on." This coming from a man who was grieving the passing of his daughter, and took the time to say that to me. I carry that message with me always and forever.

I HAVE TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU - LAST NIGHT WHEN I WENT TO BED I LAY DOWN AND CLOSED MY EYES - THERE IS A NIGHT LIGHT IN THE ROOM - WHEN I OPENED MY EYES AND LOOKED AT THE CEILING THERE WAS A FACE JESUS - SO I CLOSED MY EYES AGAIN FOR A SHORT TIME AND THEN OPENED THEM THERE WAS THE FACE OF JESUS AGAIN - CLOSED MY EYES AGAIN FOR AWHILE AND THEN OPENED THEM AND THERE HE WAS AGAIN "JESUS". THEN I CLOSED MY EYES AGAIN FOR THE 4TH TIME AND OPENED AND HE WAS GONE. WENT TO SLEEP KNOWING THE THREE BROTHERS WERE TOGETHER AGAIN.

Well dad..we were a team, you & I. Shopping buddies, church days, watching The Carbonaro Effect and cheering on the Huskies. Your bed lies empty right now, but my heart feels full.
Thank you for being the best father ever. You are the STRONGEST man I will ever know in my lifetime. And remember our daily song.. "I LOVE YOU, A BUSHEL & A PECK, A BUSHEL & A PECK & A HUG AROUND THE NECK"
