Douglas Anderson Obituary

Douglas H. Anderson, 78, formerly of Millis, Massachusetts and an avid golfer, car lover, successful business owner, and volunteer, passed away on Sunday, October 28 at The Miriam Hospital in Providence. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Doug lived in Millis, Massachusetts and then in Rumford, Rhode Island for the past 29 years. In 1953, when Doug was 19, he started working for Executone / Boston and stayed with the company for his entire career. He was the owner and operator of Executone / Rhode Island from 1972 until his retirement in 2009. Doug was a 25-year member of Wannamoisett Country Club, where he played golf almost every day. The highlights of his tenure at Wannamoisett are many, but perhaps he will be remembered best for 3 holes-in-one on number three, occasionally singing for the membership on the outside patio resulting in noise complaints from neighbors, telling jokes and stories to anyone within earshot, and his smile. He was a member and past president of The Rotary Club of East Providence, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Doug spent many years working with the American Diabetes Association, Rhode Island Affiliate, and was honored for his many contributions to the organization in 1995. He was also a proud supporter of the Rhode Island Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation / JDRF. Doug is survived by wife, Joan; daughter, Kim Anderson of Gloucester, Massachusetts; son, Craig Anderson of New Canaan, Connecticut; stepdaughters Amy Neary, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and Kim OLeary of Worcester, Massachusetts; stepson, Ben Zura of Woodland Hills, California; and eight grandchildren, Lauren, JR, Alex, Charlie, Aidan, Brynn, Maeve, and Gianna. Doug was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor Anderson, who died in 1983. A celebration of Doug Andersons life will be held at Chardonnays Restaurant, Seekonk, MA., this Saturday, November 3, from 11:00 to 2:00. Remembrances begin at 11:00 am, with lunch and plenty of Dougs favorite wine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the JDRF at 2350 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886. Arrangements by Perry/ McStay Funeral Home.

Doug will always be in my heart - when my mohter was sick before she passed, he was right there with us, bringing inspirational books and just being there for her and Dad as a good friend. He was fun to be with but when the times were tough, he was right there with us. Hope he's up there chatting with Mum right now!

My husband and I ate breakfast at Newport Creamery in Seekonk, where Doug was always sitting in the same chair every day. My husband and he would have many conversations about football and golf. Doug was a pleasure to be around, telling stories about his grandchildren, whom he was very proud of. We will miss his smile and friedship. We wish the family our sincere condolences, and know he will missed.
