Daniel Grey Obituary

Daniel Glenn Grey

Daniel Glenn Grey passed away peacefully, on October 31, 2022, in his family home surrounded by loved ones. Daniel was born December 30th, 1966, in Missoula, Montana to Stewart and Patricia (Daigle) Grey. He grew up in Missoula, MT and attended Sentinel High School from 1981-1985. Dan participated in many sports at Sentinel but loved football the most. Dan played safety in high school as part of the "Killer D's" defense that led them to the state championship in '85. Dan graduated in 1985 and married Cheri Hansen on February 14, 1986, and fathered two children Chazz and Chantelle Grey. He was a great father and was involved in every aspect of his children's lives. He coached their basketball and football and was very supportive of their dreams and aspirations and was very proud of his children and their successes. His son joined the Marine Corps and he was a very proud Marine father and his daughter received a track scholarship at both the University of Montana and Austin Peay University in Tennessee and he followed her track career and was very proud of her.

Dan attended the University of Montana and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He spent his 20-year teaching career with his Hellgate Elementary family. He taught 2nd grade for six years and moved to the PE department. He had the opportunity to teach practical arts and finished his last couple years teaching 1st grade. Teaching was Dan's passion, he loved being there with all the kids inspiring their creative young minds. He always had a smile on his face and truly cared for his responsibility as a teacher and as a fellow colleague. He had wonderful stories of his teaching experience that he shared with his family. During 2009 Dan reconnected with a fellow high school student, Tana Doyle, his "Irish Beauty" as he called her, and they immediately fell in love. Dan and Tana were married on their family farm on July 30, 2011. Dan quickly accepted his role as a father to Tana's sons Ryan and Eric and was an incredible role model and very supportive of them. Dan and Tana were happily married for the last 11 years and spent most of their time together enjoying their blended family, tending to their animals, garden, and family farm.

Dan enjoyed many activities in life including camping, spending time at the family cabin at Seely Lake and later the cabin at Thompson Falls, fishing, horseback riding, skiing, snow shoeing, cooking, gardening, and traveling. He loved Montana and especially Glacier Park. He also enjoyed quiet time surrounded by family, playing board and card games, and watching movies. He loved animals and enjoyed the farm life. Three of his favorite farm animals were a pig named Wilbur and a Jersey cow named Bella and his horse Yuma.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Stewart. Dan is survived by his mother Patricia (Daigle) Grey and sister Tina Richter (George) of Lolo MT and niece Katie Richter and nephew Ryan Richter (Kylinn), wife Tana Doyle-Grey, of Lolo MT, his children Chazz (Kelsey) Grey of Stillwater, OK, Chantelle (Ryan) Quick of Stillwater, OK, Ryan (Kimberly) Simon of Lolo, MT, and Eric Martin of Kalispell, MT. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Emmett and Owen Quick of Stillwater, OK, Autumn and Aurora Grey of Stillwater, OK, Jovi and Drea Bolstad of Lolo, MT, and soon to be born baby of Ryan and Kim. He had a large extended family and is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family is in the process of creating the Daniel Glenn Grey Memorial Foundation to provide charitable and educational opportunities for those in need as well as support cancer research. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the foundation. A memorial/celebration of life will be held the summer of 2023 the exact date is yet to be determined.

Dear Tana and family,

I remember meeting Dan in freshman football and track and we became fast friends. He was probably the only person in Sentinel sports who didn´t give me grief for being in band and I never forgot him for his kindness in that regard. I am so sorry for y´all´s loss and I pray that you and yours receive Christ´s love and comfort during this most difficult time.

With love and condolences,

Tana and Family,

I just learned of your loss of Dan. I am so very sorry. While I didn´t really know Dan in high school, since I was a few years older, I always remember his smile. While I haven´t seen you since high school, I have enjoyed seeing pictures over the last several years. The pictures I saw of the two of you together, it seemed his love for you was obvious. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you as you continue to navigate through the loss of Dan.

Sending you love and prayers,

Amy (Fudge) Tate

Danny, Jeff and myself spent most of my 7th & 8th grade years at Russell hanging out at Danny and Tinas house on Fassett Dr. I lived about 6 house away on 34th. What great times we had in and out of trouble, typical teens. The Grey house was a 2nd home for me and always felt welcomed by Pat & Stu. I'm sure we drove then nuts at times but it was some of my fondest memories. Wish we wouldn't have lost touch over the years. So many memories flooding back. Still can't believe it. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.

To Tina, and all who loved this amazing guy... I´m so very sorry you had to say goodbye so soon. I remember Dan for that big smile. Friends with Sister Tina, he was the younger brother in every sense of the word. I read of his adult life, and am not surprised by the tribute to the caring man he became. I will be upholding each of you in prayer, as you walk through this uncharted territory together. I believe Dan will be shining upon you all from a place of perfect peace. His last breath on earth, was his first breath
In heaven.
Blessings,

I am very saddened to hear of the death of this incredible man and teacher. My son is autistic and when he was in kindergarten he met up with Mr. Grey in the hallways and he instantly bonded with him. The school said because of their friendship they would make sure he would be my son's 2nd grade teacher. He was in his 2004-2005 class. I was a single parent, and Mr. Grey was my son's first influential male role model. In 7th and 8th grade my son was dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety that went along with his autism. To help him deal with this, the school gave him a job; he became Mr. Grey's, "personal assistant," in the gym department. My son and I both appreciate everything Mr. Grey did, and we will never forget him. My sincere condolences to all of his family and friends.

My son, Trevin, also loved Mr. Grey! Mr. Grey taught PE for Trevin, the year COVID hit. Trevin was bummed he couldn't see him but LOVED that Mr. Grey kept the kiddos involved with videos and photos of his animals. Such an amazing, kind human. He will be missed! Sending so much love to the Grey family, and to everyone who had the opportunity of meeting this beautiful soul!

I'll never forget how excited my daughter was to recieve her teacher letter back in 2020. She was heading into 1st grade and couldn't believe she was getting Mr. Grey as her teacher. She was so excited to spend full days with him instead of just gym class.

He will forever be one of her favorite teachers. He definitely made a lasting impression on our girl.

Sending love to all the Grey family.
