Edine Loran Obituary

Edine Marie (Dussault) Loran

September 11, 1940 - November 4, 2024

Edine Marie (Dussault) Loran, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 4th, while listening to "The Classics" on NPR, her favorite. Edine was born to June Rose Meyer and Edward T. Dussault on September 11, 1940 in Missoula, MT. She was the second of their six girls, whom Edine went on to help raise, beginning her legacy as a caretaker.

Edine attended St Francis Xavier Grade School, Sacred Heart Academy, and graduated from St Patrick's School of Nursing. She enjoyed working at St. Patrick's Hospital for over 38 years in various capacities, always eager to learn new specialties and making lasting relationships with co-workers and her patients.

Edine was active in the community through St. Francis Xavier, Missoula Aging Services, Missoula Public Schools, and the International Choral Festival to name a few. A natural leader, she served as president of her nursing class and her professional nursing society. She served on the Providence Ethics Committee and the St Francis Family Promise Program. She thrived in social settings and coveted her book, bridge, and gourmet clubs. She had many lifelong friends with whom she remained in close contact throughout her life.

Edine was good at finding the many joys in life. She loved listening to and playing music and attended symphony and MCT productions. Edine loved to cook and to entertain. She had a green thumb, nurturing plants as she did those in her life. Edine loved nature, wildlife and being active outdoors. Glacier National Park was a special place to her and her knowledge of its hikes, wildflowers and wildlife was a resource she often shared with others.

Edine's greatest joy came from her family. She married her high school sweetheart, James Francis "Jim" Loran on April 23, 1962. Together, they went on to have four children: Jamey, Todd, Joel, and Cara. Their house became the gathering place. She loved decorating for all the holidays and creating a loving and welcoming home. She enjoyed attending countless sporting events and school performances, supporting her grandchildren and their many pursuits. Edine was selfless, compassionate and generous; she had an indomitable spirit and was full of energy, life and love.

Edine is survived by her husband, Jim of 62 years; sons, Jamey (Romy), Todd (Denise), Joel (Andrea); and daughter, Cara (Kyle Hutchins); grandchildren, Erik, Emilie, Ellen, Jacob, Ava, and Sarah Loran, Lucy, Lauren, Lyla and Henry Hutchins; and sisters, Ann Mary (Diane Sands), Suzette, Adrienne, and Jeanne (Ray Geyer) Dussault.

We know Edine is cleaning, organizing and entertaining all in heaven. Rest in peace and in all the memories of love of your friends and family.

A celebration of Edine's life will take place at St. Francis Church on Friday, November 15th at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in Reidy Hall immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Missoula Symphony Chorale, Missoula Aging Services or a nonprofit of your choice.
