Robert (Bob) Thompson
Robert (Bob) Thompson, age 76, of Missoula, passed away on October 22, 2021, of complications from Parkinson's Disease.
Bob spent his early years in Floral Park, NY, before graduating from Franklin College, Indiana, in 1967. He learned he'd been drafted into service while at his favorite beach, Jones Beach, NY. He returned to Jones Beach exactly two years later in 1969 to celebrate his return to civilian life. The computer training he received during his time at the Pentagon allowed him to pursue a career in technology. His financial acumen and savings ethic led to property ownership and management as a side gig. He lived and worked in White Plains, NY, where he met his wife, Aileen. He went to the end of the earth (New Zealand) to marry her. Bob and Aileen spent 38 years living in Westport, CT, where they raised their family. They moved to Missoula in August 2019. Although he lived in a number of places, in his heart, he was always a kid from Long Island, NY.
Bob enjoyed skiing, hiking, and golf. He was a big fan of both the New York Yankees and the New York Giants; he was interested in current events and politics and held wide general knowledge. He was a reader of mysteries and a solver of puzzles. He took pride in his home and family and was a devoted husband and father.
Bob is survived by his loving family; wife, Aileen; son, Zander Wilson-Thompson (Brittany) and granddaughter, Wilma, of Missoula; son Michael Thompson; sister, MaryAnne (Jimmy) Pepe of Floral Park, NY; brother, Nils (Carol) Thompson of Atlanta, GA; and brother, Gregory Thompson of Wallkill, NY.
The family thanks the staff of Missoula Beehive Assisted Living Memory Care and Missoula Hospice for their compassion and dedication. Donations may be made in Bob's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or MSK Cancer Center.
Bob will be farewelled privately at the Missoula Veterans Cemetery.
