Tyson Day Obituary
Tyson Andrew Day
1981 ~ 2024
Tyson Andrew Day was born on August 1, 1981, in Moab, Utah, to Crystal Cortes and Randy Day. From the beginning, Tyson liked to make an entrance. He decided to come 10 days fashionably late to his own birth, right after the propane explosion. Through his life, Tyson continued this trend of doing things on his own time.
Starting in preschool, Tyson took pride in always looking good. He would spend time in front of the mirror primping, which lead to him being chronically late. Tyson was larger than life. He loved to be the life of the party. He loved to flirt and flatter. He could make any woman blush. In his elementary years, he gained a passion for athletics. He loved wrestling, baseball, football, skiing, boating and dirt biking. This carried on throughout his life. He was a great protector of family, friends and any underdog. He graduated from Grand County High School in 1999.
Tyson went on to play football and "study" at Dixie State in St. George, Utah, for one year. Tyson was a curious person who loved to learn and understand how things worked.
He then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in London, England South. Tyson was always a spiritual person, but his love for his savior, Jesus Christ, grew immensely during this time. He loved to teach people the gospel and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a spiritual titan and his faith grew throughout his life.
Tyson then continued his education at Utah Valley State College. He played hard and made many lifelong friends during this time. Tyson met and married Karen Neilson. They moved back to Moab and had a beautiful baby boy Mason Andrew Day in 2011. Followed by his second beautiful son Ethan Randle Day in 2013. Tyson's heart grew in ways he never knew possible. His two boys were his world. Being a father was his greatest joy in life. He saw life through a new perspective. Teaching his sons how to live a righteous life became his top priority. He loved providing for his family. He pursued a career in real estate and many other entrepreneurial endeavors.
He loved people and people loved him. This was in part due to his non-judgmental nature. He had a talent for building others up. He never knew a stranger and loved to connect with people on a deep level. If you sat with Tyson for more than a few minutes, you would always end up having a philosophical conversation. All of the people in his life thought that they were the most important to him and had the most special connection. Tyson was adored by his family. He was always making us laugh. Tyson would use any means necessary to get a laugh. Funny faces, jokes, and playing games always kept us rolling. Tyson was light hearted and easy to be around. He was an amazing father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Tyson loved kids and kids loved him. He was a patriot who loved his country and was proud to be an American. He would stand up for his values and didn't mind having difficult conversations.
Tyson started his battle with brain cancer in 2006. He fought long and hard. Tyson would always say that he didn't mind the pain if it meant he could spend time with those he loved, especially his boys. He loved living. The last nine years were especially difficult. When Tyson was feeling sad or down, doing service would always bring him peace and comfort.
Tyson passed away on October 1, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at the University of Utah hospital. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his cherished children, Mason Andrew Day, Ethan Randall Day, Beloved Mother Crystal Cortes Day, his loving Father Randy Day (Sheila), his treasured siblings, Jeremy Isaac Day (Nicole), Kira Lindsey Knight (Brad), Kellen John Day, along with seven adored nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.
