David Allen Weaver
July 22, 1930 - February 20, 2024
Modesto, California - David Weaver was born to Clarence Alfred Weaver and Vesta Elizabeth (Hartman) Weaver at home in Waterford, California on July 22, 1930. He went home to meet his Lord on February 20th, 2024.
David attended Roosevelt Jr High, Modesto High School and Modesto Junior College. He graduated from San Jose State College in 1952 and San Francisco State College in 1972 with a Master of Science degree in Recreation. He married Shirley Ann Longmire and joined the US Air Force in 1952. He served overseas tours at Tachikawa, Japan and Fontainebleau, France as a Recreation Specialist. Upon discharge he served as Youth Activities Director at Nellis AFB, Nevada and Assistant Recreation Director at Naval Station Treasure Island, San Francisco. He retired as Recreation Director at Naval Supply Center, Oakland.
David was active in several community organizations including American Field Service (AFS), Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP), Love Modesto, tutoring at Fairview Elementary School, the Covenant Church choir and Gideons International where he distributed New Testaments to inmates at San Quentin Prison, and Jr. High, Sr. High and College students in Richmond and Modesto areas. He also enjoyed decorating floats for the Rose Parade in Pasadena.
David was preceded in death by his wife Shirley of 55 years and is survived by his current wife, Marjorie Doland Nelson, grown children Alan Weaver of Colorado Springs, Becky Beeman of Acampo, Ca, grandchildren Daniel Beeman, Mark Beeman, Jeanette Wooten, 8 great grandchildren, and brothers Donald of Oakdale, Chester of Modesto and Derald, formerly of Modesto
A memorial service will be held at Modesto Covenant Church, 913 Floyd Ave., Modesto on Saturday, March 23rd at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 576722, Modesto, Ca 95357 or to Modesto Covenant building fund.
