HAZEL PIERRE SPRING Hazel was born to Hattie and Lester Bergquist in Minnesota on June 24, 1911 and passed away in Fresno on Monday, June 18, 2007.
She was raised in Lewistown. Montana where she married Fred Pierre in 1934. They ventured west to Califorma in 1937, at the beginning of Fred's long career with Bank of America. They raised two sons, Philip and John, while moving throughout Central California, gathering many long-term friendships along the way. She was widowed shortly after moving to Modesto in 1968, and quickly built an enduring community of friends, especially those in Centenary United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, and world traveler who explored many cultures and countries that were extensively documented in her travel logs. She married her second grade friend, Vern Spring, in 1991, and continued to expand the number of friends and her world travel until his death in 1996.
A most fitting description of Hazel is best expressed as: A family is a safe haven to grow and flourish. A place of unconditional love and acceptance. To learn tolerance and become strong. To know, you are always part of the whole. A connection that lasts forever. Your strength to journey the world''.
The family wishes to thank Saint Agnes Hospice and Sunrise Assisted Living staff of Fresno for their kindness and support during Hazel's transition to be with her maker and those family members who passed before.
Hazel is survived by her sons, John Pierre and his wife Angela of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Philip Pierre and his wife Judy of Fresno; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, 1141 Scenic Drive. Modesto. CA 95350 on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.
Remembrances may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 1911 Toyon Avenue, Modesto, Ca 95350; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Over so many years, the memories of this most special Aunt will fill my heart forever. Her smile, her encouragement, her hospitality & faith filled energy enlightened us all. A life to be celebrated and cherished, we're thankful to have shared some wonderful times all these many years. We wonder? Is she playing bridge now with our 2 mothers, aunts & friends in heaven now? They will surely have been waiting & excited for her to join them!

I will always remember Verne and Hazel at Modesto Institute for Continued Learning and the fun we had together there. Hazel talked about her family all the time. You have my sympathy.
