John P. Toste

Turlock, California - John P. Toste passed away on December 17, 2025, in Modesto, California at the age of 89. Born on January 28, 1936, in Banta, California, John was raised on a dairy farm in Hughson, CA and later made his home in Turlock for 60 years. John graduated from Hughson High School in 1954. He was in the National Guard for 7 years. He ran the family farm with his dad and brother until he bought his own dairy in 1960.

John was deeply committed to his family and his work. He married his beloved wife, Jeanette, on January 24, 1960, in Modesto. Together, they started what became known as the JJ Toste Dairy, which John owned and operated until his retirement in 2022. Besides raising dairy cows, he also farmed almonds and grapes.

John's interests included restoring his classic car, watching Westerns, and watching various sporting events. He was an avid fan of rodeo, attending the National Finals Rodeo multiple times, and he never missed the excitement of the Indy 500. One year he was able to attend the actual event in person!

John was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock, CA and a member of UPEC.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Jeanette; his children, Terri Toste, John (Angel) Toste, and Sherri (Amaro) Souza; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Toste.

A visitation will be held on December 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home. A Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass are scheduled for December 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
