Walter Martin "Wally" Wilds Sr.

1938 - 2016

Walter "Wally" Martin Wilds Sr., 78, returned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, after a valiant battle with long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle, and ultimately gave him peace.
Walter was born in Mckessport, Pennsylvania on January 28, 1938, to Charles "Norman" and Elizabeth Wilds. He grew up the eldest of three boys and attended Clairton High School (PA) and continued a career of industrial maintenance at various steel mills, a sand mine, and processing plants. Walter's career led him to eventually move to Michigan until retiring in 2005. He married Claudia A. Wilds (Grigg) on September 27, 1974; they were married 41 years.
Walter enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, football, golf, bowling, NASCAR, watching TV, his newspaper and crossword puzzles, his lighthouse and train collections, but mostly, spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Claudia; his children, Walter, Jr. (Denise), Matthew and Elizabeth Allen (Richard); his grandchildren, Glenn, Mandy Caban (Marc), Madylin Allen, Brendan, Samantha and Alexis; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Noah Caban and Clara Caban; his Goddaughter, Selena Garcia.
Walter touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Community Lutheran Church, where he was a charter member, 23984 Gibraltar Rd., Flat Rock, MI 48134. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. On Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Community Lutheran Church with Pastor Erik Schmidt officiating. A reception and celebration of Walter's life will follow immediately after the service at Arnaldo's Banquet Center, 18275 Quarry Rd., Riverview, MI 48193.
