March 19, 1926 ~ December 28, 2007

SALINAS – Wendell J. Broom, 81, passed away on Friday morning, December 28, 2007 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 19, 1926 in Waterloo, IN. He was the superintendent for Soledad Union School District from 1962 to 1983. Wendell was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. He was also a member of SIRS.
   He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Henrietta Broom of Salinas; sons, John (Cindy) Broom and Steve (Zuzzanne) Broom of Salinas; daughter, Barbara Broom of Oakhurst; grandchildren, Brad, Lacy, Jenny, Greg, Chrissy, Garrett, Colin and Kiersten.
   Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 1130 San Vincente Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901.
   Donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 1130 San Vincente Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901 or to the donor's favorite charity. Arrangements are by Struve and Laporte Chapel. For online condolences, please go to: www.struveandlaporte.com.
