WILLIAM SHEPHERD Obituary
SHEPHERD, Mr. William Henry ""Pa-wPaw"", 64, of Montgomery, Ala-bama, died on Friday, April 8, 2005, after an extended illness, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005, at Southern Memorial Funeral Home (formerly Brooks-Cargile), with visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., and the service to immediately follow with Dr. Gill Bar-row officiating. He is survived by his wife, Greta Shepherd; daughters, Sonja Williams of Montgomery, AL , and Deadra (Rodny) Alvarez, of Millbrook, AL ; brothers, Clifford ""Bu-ddy"" (Gloria) Shepherd of Lake Jor-dan, AL , John H. (Rebecca) Shep-herd of Montgomery, AL ; sister, Sunshine (Joe) Fiveash of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Bradley Wil-liams, Paige Williams, Kevin Alvarez and Jeremy Alvarez. He was pre-ceded in death by his parents, Clif-ford and Lola Mae Pyron Shepherd; sisters, Martha Ann Johnson and Nancy Aust. Mr. Shepherd comes from the prominent Shepherd fami-ly who settle Jamestown, VA, Shep-herdstown, WV, and Palmyra, VA., where his Great Grandfather pur-chased lands formerly owned by neighbor, President Thomas Jeffer-son. He was a direct descendent of George Read, who signed the Dec-laration Of Independence. Mr. Shepherd attended Starke Military Academy, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Mont-gomery, AL , in 1959. He attended Auburn University where he was Pledge President and member of Sigma Pi Social Fraturnity. He re-turned to work for his father at Shep-herd Brothers Plastering Company, later working for thirty years as an independent insurance agent, retir-ing as Vice President of Insurance & Bonds, Inc. In 1988, he was named ""Boss of the Year"" by the Insurance Women of Montgomery. Until his death, he served as Journal Clerk of the Alabama House of Represen-tatives where he has been a be-loved member of the House Staff for 14 years. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Montgomery; Insurance Women of Montgomery; Alabama Road Builders Association; Montgomery Jaycees; Alabama Air National Guard 280th Communications Squadron, Maxwell AFB; and the Hoot Owl Hunting Club, Tuskegee, AL Mr. Shepherd was recently rec-ognized by the Alabama House of Representatives, Alabama Senate and Governor Bob Riley for his la-gacy of loving values, kindness and friendship he so willingly shared. Mr. Shepherd is also sur-vived by many cousins, neices and nephews of the Sewell, Collier Shepherd and Fiveash families. Pall-bearers will be members of the Hoot Owl Hunting Club; Larry Profit, Don Ladner, Greg Pappas, Dowe Littleton, Jim Gray, Jack Mathews, John Lorentson, Terry McDuffie and beloved friends, Leon Moore, Mike Murphy, Pat Harris, Jerry Spencer, Bill Cobb, Ed Crowell, Harry McMil-lan and Rosevelt Smitherman.
