William Stapleton Obituary

William "Bill" Albert Stapleton was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Oct. 5, 1948. Preceding him in death were his father Bernard Stapleton and mother Marjorie Stapleton, Montrose Colorado.

He is survived by his wife Paula Stapleton, Montrose; sister Diane Brownson (TJ), Fredericksville, Georgia; sister Sandra Davis (Tom) Montrose; son Neil Stapleton, Glenwood Springs; grandchildren Phaedra Stapleton Thacker (Logan), Glenwood Springs; Sophia Stapleton, Colorado Springs Colorado; Talyn Stapleton, Basalt Colorado; Xavier Stapleton, Basalt Colorado; and great-grandson Lucas Thacker, Glenwood Springs.

Bill graduated from Aspen High School in 1966. He married Paula in 1968 and they moved to Aspen, Colorado, in 1969. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with Paula, wife of 55 years. Bill worked for Rio Grande Motor Way and Pitkin County Road and Bridge Department in Aspen. He was a 25-year volunteer firefighter with the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department.

After retiring he served on the Aspen Fire Protection District Board. The couple moved to Montrose in the early 1970s where he worked for Western Gravel Inc. Bill was a life member of the Aspen Elks Lodge.

There will be a celebration of life in late summer. Donations can be made in his honor to local fire departments.
