Dora Lucille "Sally" Shelton

1952 - 2016

Dora Lucille "Sally" Shelton passed peacefully in her sleep July 9, 2016 in her home in Lynchburg after an extended illness of ALS. Sally was born on June 30, 1952 to the late James Estill Shelton and Maggie Lou (Eady) Shelton. Sally was a lifelong resident of Lynchburg, Moore County and was educated in the county's school system. Sally united with Berry Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age. She served as a member of the Stewardess Board of the church, she sang in the church choir and was a member of The Coleman March Ensemble and Multi-County Workshop Choir. Sally was preceded in death by a daughter, Da-na Lynn; brother, James Willis Shelton; and sister, Mary Lee Word. Sally leaves to cherish her memory a son, Donnie Leon Shelton of Lynchburg; sisters, Ella Mae (Willie L.) Rippy of Shelbyville; Roberta (Harvey) Cannon of Lansing, Mich., and Ealon L. (Coleman) March of Lynchburg; uncle, Claude (Dorothy) Eady; aunts, Lillie V. Henderson of Lynchburg, Ruby Trollinger of Shelbyville; and Joyce A. Eady of Fayetteville; devoted cousins, Nancy King and Marlene Whitaker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sally, a fun loving person who loved and enjoyed being around people, will be greatly missed by all. Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 14 in the Jennings Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment followed at Highview Cemetery. Jennings Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
