Jable Dean

Jable Dean, of Lynchburg, passed this life on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the age of 87. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, May 1, at 1:00pm at Lynchburg Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service for a visitation from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Mr. Dean, a native of Lynchburg, was the son of the late Jable Sr. and Jessie Mullins Dean. He served his country well as a proud member of the US Army. His time spent in Vietnam, during the Indo-China War, was a profound experience for him, as it was done in secrecy. As one quote puts it, "We are not here. We were not there. We do not exist." This created a brotherhood between him and his fellow service members, who later joined the Military Assistance Advisory Group. After his time in the military, Mr. Dean began his teaching career at Highland Rim in Lincoln County as a classroom teacher, then as principal. He ended his career at Moore County High School, first as principal, and finally, as a classroom teacher. He enjoyed his trips to Tunica, afternoon boat rides, visiting with friends in the county, and his Saturday-night dinners at his kid's house.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Charlene Dean, and sisters Alice Truby and Wilsie Mae Shahan.
He is survived by son, Charles (Debbie) Dean; daughters, Rebecca (Zachary) Murray and Suzanne Smith; sisters, Mattie Lou Sorrels and Frances (Bratten) Ferrell; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Moore County High School Library.
