Norman Austin Obituary

Norman Kent Austin, of Lynchburg, passed this life on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at his home at the age of 79. Mr. Austin was born in Moore County to Thurman and Bessie Foster Austin. He served in the United States Army. He spent much of his life employed as a construction worker. Later he worked as a driver for the South Central Human Resource Agency. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, farming, and playing music, and loved being a "Pa" to his four grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Austin was preceded in death by four siblings, a sister Sarah Louise and husband Calvin Gannon of Moore County, and brothers Gerald Clay Austin of Moore County, Lloyd Harlan and wife Jane Austin of Tullahoma and Michael Glen and surviving wife Charlene Austin of Moore County. He is survived by a son Jeff Austin and wife Lorie and a daughter Angela Austin Bateman, all of Moore County; grandchildren, Amber Austin, Abbigail Austin, Colton Bateman and Tyler Bateman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 13 at 3 p.m. at the Lynchburg Funeral Home with Reverend Timothy Bender and Reverend Charles Guinn officiating. Burial followed at Smith Chapel Cemetery.
