March 6, 1958 - May 21, 2022
Mr. John "J." Harvey Pascal, 64, of Valdese, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Gateway Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lenoir.
"J." was born March 6, 1958, in Valdese, a son of Vera Harvey Pascal and the late Elmo John Pascal and grandson of the late James Henry and Maria Ferrier Pascal. He attended Western Carolina University and UNC Asheville. John described himself as a lover of God, of Science and of Music.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his brother, James "Jimmy" Henry Pascal and wife, Linda of Matthews; aunts, Rosalba Pascal Shook of Morganton and Lucy Pascal of Galveston, Texas; cousins, Robert Pascal and Marianne Pascal.
Graveside Services for John "J." Harvey Pascal will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 26, in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. John Frye officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
Memorials may be made to the Wright Food Bank, % Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Rutherford College, NC 28671.

J was one of a kind, and a Burke County legend. I saw him at his best and worst over the years. We played music as a duo at various times. He is at peace now.

Ive missed seeing J around, I didn't know where he had gotten to. I loved talking to him for hours, he was one of the most intelligent people I had known. What a blessing it was to have known him. Praying fir his Mother and family.♥

I never got to know Jay as well as I should have, but he was always around when I lived in Burke County. He always had a warm and welcoming persona, and inspired all he met to pursue the expression of the self through art and music. RIP Jay, you will be missed.

I remember Jay from East Burke High School, up on the hillside with a bunch of kids singing "Fire on the Mountain" and you could always see him walking the streets of Valdese with his guitar on his back. He was one of a kind.
