Tom threw me a long pass. We were playing football during a physical education class at Chatham High. He judged my speed, put the ball right into my hands, and I continued my unbroken stride. Then WHAM! I was slapped in the back on the shoulders by a defensive player and I did a complete forward flip. Landing back on my feet, I scampered into the end zone. I had dirt in my hair as a witness to the unplanned somersault.
Tom's skill made other people look good. His friendship made others feel good. His smile lit up everyone's world.
God is in all the details of our life. We learn special values in our heart by events engineered by a loving Heavenly Father. It was no accident that I attended the same high school as Tom. Tom blessed my life. In a few years I will be joining Tom for making more God-directed memories.
In the meantime, I will be running the patterns that God calls, to the best of my ability. God has the skill to put the ball right into my hands. I learned that from Tom.
Eternally grateful, William
