Dawn Sutfin Obituary

Dawn C. Sutfin (nee Brainerd), age 86, of Vermilion, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain. She was born on November 18, 1935 in Amherst, where she was born and raised. After graduating from Marion L. Steele High School, she went to West Liberty College in West Virginia where she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Science. With her degree in hand, she began her career as a dental hygienist, retiring after many years of caring for countless patients.Dawn’s church, First Congregational Church, in Lorain, was a huge part of her life. She began numerous groups within the church, dedicating a lot of her time to helping people to not just find the religious side of church, but more so, the spiritual side. Another huge part of her life was music. She was an accomplished pianist and could be heard singing wherever she was, which she also did in the choir for her church. Dawn treasured her time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She loved taking them to Maude Neiding Park and Hot Dog Heaven, both of them being their favorite places to go. She was such a beautiful, loving, and caring person with a huge heart. Caring for people was what she devoted her life to. She was especially honored to care for her mother and aunt when they needed it.Dawn is survived by her children; Debbi (Jim) Hunt, of Lorain, Rick (Bonnie Kinchloe) Sutfin, of Fairmont, WVA, and Katie Golden, of Amherst, her grandchildren; Zachary, Logan, Westley, Heather, Cathrine, Rachael, Patrick, Samantha, and Matthew, and all of her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husband, William R., a granddaughter, Jessica Payne, parents; Fleming B. and Mayme (Sharp) Brainerd, and her brother, Fleming “Toby” Brainerd. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Her burial will be privately held by her family. The family will also receive friends for a celebration of life for both William and Dawn on Saturday, July 16th, from 1-5 pm at the Village of Edson Creek, 1401 Portside Drive, Vermilion, OH 44089. Because giving and helping was such an important part of Dawn’s life, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory, be made to either; the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
