Mathew W. "Matt" Morrison

1939 - 2021

Mathew W. "Matt" Morrison, 82, of Clare died at home Saturday October 2, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born April 7, 1939 in Wise Township the son of the late Gerald "Max" and Marguerite (McNerney) Morrison. Matt married Margaret E. Simon July 17, 1965 in Coleman. She preceded him in death September 22, 2019. Matt had served with the U.S. Army from 1957-1960, where he was stationed in Germany and played baseball and football. He later worked for North American Drilling Co. and soon became a Driller in the oilfields. In 1966 he started working at the Dow Chemical Co. and retired in 1995. While at Dow, he bought a backhoe and installed sewer systems for the town of Coleman. In addition to all of this, he was a lifetime farmer in the Clare area. In his younger years, Matt enjoyed playing baseball and football, dancing a good polka, playing cards, shooting pool, fishing and coaching his girls in softball. In his later years he enjoyed day-trading, and wintering in Florida. Survivors include his daughters Holly & Tim Harris of Paw Paw, Tracy & Michael Hizer of Rochester Hills: 4 grandchildren Logan & Landen Harris, Greyson & Nolan Hizer; brothers Gary & Shirley Morrison of Coleman, Bruce & Janice Morrison of Coleman, Patrick & Cindy Morrison of Batavia IL, sister Mary Simon of Clare, brother-in-law Ted Mogg of Rosebush, many nieces and nephews. Matt was also preceded in death by brother Michael Morrison, sisters Martha Morrison & Monica Mogg. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday October 10, 2021 at the O'Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Scott Hayes officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Henry's Cemetery, Rosebush. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and on Sunday starting at 12 noon until the time of services.
