Herman M. Hoheisel, 83-year-old resident of
Pierz, MN, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025 at Meadow Ponds in Pierz.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Father David Maciej officiating. Burial took place in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday and 9 to 10 A.M. on Saturday all at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz. Herman M, Hoheisel was born on August 18, 1941 in
Pierz, MN to the late Ben and Katie (Tschida) Hoheisel. He grew up in Morril, MN, attending country school and then Foley High School. He was united in marriage to Karen Marshik on October 16, 1962 at St. John's Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. The couple moved 19 times in their first 20 years of marriage and eventually settled in Pierz. He worked as a bus driver, owned H& K Lawn Service, Pierz Lumber, and the City of Pierz. In 1970 the couple bought the Star Café and then the Pierz Café. They eventually bought the Old Bank restaurant and moved to a farm south of Pierz. They owned the Morrill Liquor store for 2 years before it burned down. They rebuilt the store and sold it. At that time, they moved west of Buckman and purchased the Knotty Pine restaurant which they owned and operated for 12 years. They moved and stayed in the Pierz community. Herman was Chief of Police for the city of Pierz from 1963 to 1965. He then took a job as a Morrison County Deputy from 1965-1971. Herman returned to Pierz and was chief of police in 1971, retiring in 1994. After retiring as a police officer, Herman would help local community businesses such as Barrett Ag as a truck driver as well as the Pierz co-op.
The couple enjoyed traveling, hunting in Wyoming, their motorcycles and 4-wheeling. They spent their winters in Arizona. In the summer Herman would be in their Pierz home and took great pride in his lawn and garden. He loved to have his friends over for their yearly turtle feed. Happy hour at the Red Rooster was a must and always visited whoever he could. He loved old western country music. Herman was a member of St. Joseph Church in Pierz, Knights of Columbus, and Pierz Lions. He loved to be in the community helping with whatever he could.
Herman is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Steven) Bochow; son, Michael (Donnelle) Hoheisel; sister, Arlene Laffin; sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Webeck and Arlie Epsky; grandchildren, Ben Bochow, Holly Bochow (Jake Meyer), Hanna (Jason) Lessard, Adam (Heidi) Hoheisel, Emma (Andrew) Schmidbauer, Jack Hoheisel (Kylee Latterell) and Amanda Hoheisel; great-grandchildren, Kylee Marshik, Josephine Marshik, Madilynn Jacobson and Emily Lessard.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Hoheisel; parents, Benard and Katie Hoheisel; brother, Robert Hoheisel; sisters, Doris Schyma and Mary Przybilla; brothers-in-law, Tom Laffin, Ed Epsky, Richard Webeck, Harvy Virnig, Galen (Fritz) Przybilla and sister-in-law, Ellen Virnig.
