Majorie Osborn Obituary

A woman who will most be remembered for the white nurse's cap she wore, Marjorie M. Watson Orsborn, age 95, of Mount Gilead, died peacefully Monday evening, May, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

On April 22, 1921, Marge was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the oldest of four daughters of the late James P. and Esther M. (Kelly) Watson. They were raised in Chesterville, where she attended school, up until the 11th grade when she transferred to Mount Gilead High School to take Chemistry, which would enable her to follow her dreams of becoming a nurse. She graduated in the Mount Gilead High School class of 1938.

Following high school, Marge enrolled in the Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing, earning her nursing degree in 1943.

Growing up and attending school in Chesterville, Marge knew who she would marry nearly all of her life, Herbert L. Orsborn, her high school sweetheart. A month after graduating from nursing school, they were married on June 26, 1943. Then, in 1952, they moved to what would become their home for the rest of their lives on W. Marion St. During their thirty two years together, Marge and Herb lovingly raised three children: Judith, Jim and Joanne; they enjoyed fishing, pinochle, and homemade ice cream. Herb preceded her in death on July 7, 1975.

Dedicated to the Morrow County Hospital, Marge honorably served as one of their registered nurse's for over forty years. She worked in most of the departments over the years, with her favorite being obstetrics, helping to deliver many of the babies born in Morrow County during her time there. She even felt a kinship to those babies she helped deliver, and would be proud of them as if she was their own mother. She retired from the hospital in 1986. Marge had also taken blood pressure for many years at the Morrow County Fair, and collected for and promoted the mission of the American Heart Association.

With a love for the outdoors, Marge loved gardening, tending to her many plants, watching the birds, and even cutting the grass. Many will remember seeing her caring for the outside of her home as they drove by on W. Marion St. She also loved fishing, even winning an award for the biggest crappie fished from a farm pond one year, which she proudly mounted.

Having a huge heart for animals, if Marge saw any animal suffering her family knew she would be bringing it home. She loved tending to baby rabbits, lambs, and anything else she found in need.

Very proud of her family, Marge loved crocheting afghans for the many grandchildren in her family, which she so adored.

Over the years, Marge attended the Pulaskiville Community Bible Church and Bryn Zion Baptist Church. She also loved attending Seniors on Center on Monday nights, to enjoy their Monday Music Night program.

One of a kind, Marge will be remembered for being a great conversationalist who loved telling stories. She was a mix of being shy and reserved, and spunky and outgoing. She was a woman of grit and character, who was steadfastly independent. She was always put together, never having a hair out of place. Marge wanted to make a difference in life, always striving for progress. And no matter the situation, Marge would always do all she could to help anyone through anything!

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Judy (Bruce) McKirgan of Mount Gilead, Jim "Oz" (Brigette) Orsborn of Carroll, and Joanne (Jim) Trainer of Mount Gilead; nine grandchildren: Tonya (Ed) Wright, Steven (Wendy) McKirgan, Andrew Orsborn, Jonathan Orsborn PhD, Kelly Orsborn, BJ (Holly) Trainer, Geoff (Jenny) Trainer, Gabe (Jessica) Trainer, and Garrison (Caitlin) Trainer; fifteen great-grandchildren: Connor, Makenzie and Carter McKirgan, Clayton and Grace Orsborn, Chelsea, Noah, Ethan and Maya Trainer, Kayla, Mallory, and Julie Trainer, Carson and Kenlee Trainer, and Gavin Trainer; a brother-in-law, Jim Welling; two sisters-in-law: Gertrude Goare and Phyllis Orsborn Hansford; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends: Jennifer Palmer, Linda Phillips, Valerie Oster and Isabella, Carrie Duncan, Lenore Daw, Margaret Dudgeon, Jennifer Boyd, Susi Prater and all the Morrow County Seniors on Center Monday night music groups and audience.

Including her husband and parents, Marge was preceded in death by three sisters and two brother-in-laws: Geraldine Welling, Vesta (Willis) Colestock, and Mary (Jim) Hobson; mother and father-in-law: Charles and Carrie Orsborn; and three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law on the Orsborn side: Orion (Alma) Orsborn, Walter "Bo" Orsborn, and Gordon Goare.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will be observed privately by her family. Burial will be held in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead.

Memorial contributions may be made to Seniors on Center, c/o Monday Music Program, 41 W. Center St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your wonderful mom. She took care of me when I had my appendix out at age twelve, never yelled at Joanne and me when we ran into the house on the riding lawnmower and broke a brick off or even when Joanne hoisted me up to grab the rope on the church bell and I kept ringing the bell until a deacon got me down. I remember her fondly as the archetypal mother figure. She was a part of my life that I have always cherished. I wanted ya'all to know that she meant a lot to me growing up. God bless you and grant you peace in this sorrowful time.

So sorry to hear of Marge's passing. I loved going to Herb and Marge's house after school so that I could attend the Mt Gilead High School Industrial Arts Club. This became the foundation for my 33 year (so far) career as an engineer at Boeing.
