Michael Blevins, Sr. Obituary

Michael Earl Blevins Sr., age 55, of Mount Gilead, died peacefully early Friday morning, April 26, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous two year battle with cancer.

On May 8, 1957, Mike was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the second of five children of the late Charles and Doris (Kendall) Blevins Jr.

Over thirty five years ago, Mike was introduced by mutual friends to the woman he would marry, Geneva Linley, while they were both living in Texas. They were married on October 13, 1978, and together they have lovingly raised their four sons: Brian, Michael Jr., Shawn and Jason. As a family, they moved to Mount Gilead in 1997.

Very dedicated to his work, Mike gave his all to Compass Construction in Dublin for the past several years both as a carpenter and metal framer, working mainly on their commercial projects.

An outdoorsman, Mike's "pride and joy" was his yard and no one was allowed to mow it but him. He also loved going fishing whenever he got the chance.

An avid sports fan, Mike loved rooting on his sons when they played football for Mount Gilead. He also loved watching his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes and NASCAR racing.

Even though he was a man of few words, Mike made sure his family and friends knew how much he loved them. He was also a very generous man, who would do anything for you, giving you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Mike will be dearly missed by his wife, Geneva Blevins of Mount Gilead; four sons: Brian McCloud of Columbus, Michael Blevins Jr., Shawn (Krista) Blevins Sr., and Jason Blevins, all three of Mount Gilead; four grandchildren: Brian McCloud Jr., Isabel and London Blevins, and Shawn Blevins Jr.; three brothers: Charles (Sheila) Blevins III of New Albany, IN, Larry Blevins and John Blevins, both of Conroe, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Sue Larue; and by his canine companion, Ace.

The Blevins family will greet friends from 11 - 1 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life will also be held there at 1:00 p.m., with Hospice Chaplain Dave Matos officiating. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, his family requests memorial contributions may be to the funeral home to help them with expenses.
