Ben Mendoza Rodriguez, 94, of Midland, TX passed away on February 27, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Ben was born on October 2, 1930 to Virginia and Hermerejildo Rodriguez in Loving, New Mexico. He and his sister, Lupe were orphaned at a very young age. His aunt, Perfecta Rodriguez Luera, aka Tia Pepe, raised them both after his mother's death. He left school at an early age and began to work in the fields and became a farmer. He then went on to learn construction and became a carpenter. There was nothing Ben couldn't build. All the people he worked with were astonished because Ben was able to do all the calculation needed in his head in mere seconds, when others had to write out the formulas on paper. Ben also picked up mechanics. He never stopped working and learning. Ben met his wife at a dance in Pecos, TX in 1956 and married soon after.
Ben enjoyed helping others fix anything around their homes or cars. He usually did this free of charge. He did anything to better his loved ones. His last years before getting sick, he would garden. There was nothing he couldn't grow.
Ben was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia and father, Hermerejildo, sisters, Lupe Castaneda, and Dora Harrison, brother's, George Rodriguez and Able Rodriguez.
He is survived by his wife, Ercilia Rodriguez. they were 3 days short of making their 68-year wedding anniversary. Ben is also survived by his 8 children. James Rodriguez of Incline Village, Nevada, Vanessa Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX, Virginia Rodriguez of Midland, TX, Jack Rodriguez of Midland, TX, Gerald Rodriguez of Incline Village, Nevada, Veronica Fuqua of Georgetown, TX, Joseph Rodriguez of Phoenix, AZ and Benjamin Rodriguez of Phoenix, AZ.
He leaves behind several siblings: Brothers Juan Rodriguez, Joe Rodriguez, Chris Rodriguez and sister Susie Anaya.
Also left behind are 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church located in Georgetown, TX. On April 3, 2025. Rosary begins at 1 p.m. and mass begins at 1:30. Reception to follow after.
