Billy Davis Obituary

Billy Glen Davis, Jr., loving son, brother, and friend, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, on October 29, 2011, in the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital, after a courageous twelve-year battle against cancer. Glen was born October 30, 1944, in Odessa, TX to Billy Glen Davis, Sr. (deceased), and Josephine (Joan) Sadler Davis. He is survived by his mother, Joan Davis; and his sister, Martha Jo Davis, both of Midland; his brother, Don Davis of Odessa, TX; his aunt, Charmayne Sadler of Hobbs, NM; and numerous cousins. Glen and his family moved to Midland in 1952. He graduated, with honors, from Robert E. Lee High School, Midland, TX in 1963, and attended the University of Texas, Austin, receiving a B.A. degree in Latin and English and a M.S. degree in Planning and Administration from the School of Social Work. Glen taught Latin at Ball High School, Galveston, TX for a year, returned to Midland, and served as director of the Housing Demonstration Project for Family Counseling Services. He moved back to Austin in 1979 and began his career as a Program Specialist at the Office of Procurement for the Department of Human Services. He retired in 1998. He taught Computer Programming at Austin Community College for several years. Glen enjoyed the UT Lady Longhorns' basketball games and was a long time coach of women's softball and soccer in the Austin area. He returned to the Midland/Odessa area in 2001 and was a volunteer instructor of American Indian History at Midland College Classics series for several semesters. A memorial service for Glen will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Nicholas' Episcopal Church, 4000 W Loop 250 North, Midland, TX, celebrated by the Rev. James E. Liggett, Jr., Rector. Inurnment will follow in St. Nicholas' Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to Hospice Midland, P O Box 2621, Midland, TX 79702, the St. Nicholas' Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, or a charity of your choosing. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made: www.npwelch.com.

I lost contact with Glen after our year teaching together at Ball HS in Galveston. I am sorry I never got to reconnect because I always enjoyed his company.

I knew Glen from Jane Long and Alamo, he was with me when the planes collided over Apache Dr in the fifties, we were going to start a band that day. He was my hero in those days. RIP Glen.

Saddened to learn the loss of Glen as I knew him from Alamo Junior High days (he was so good in math) as well as Midland Lee. Always a gentleman and sweet friend. Sahndra Griffith Caldwell (Horseshoe Bay, TX)

My heart was saddened today with the loss of Glen. We were grand friends in the early Midland High years. Many fun hours were spent driving around in his Studebaker. My thoughts and prayers are with the Davis family.

Mrs. Davis, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. Glen and I were friends from elementary school on. Although we didn't see each other often over the years, I enjoyed seeing him at the 2005 reunion and catching up on all that he had done. He was a wonderful person.
