Sheriff Painter was a great man. I worked with him when I worked at the Courthouse. He was also so polite. My husband and I would see him out and he always gave me a hug and said hello and shake my husband's hand and hold conversation.

To the family of Gary Painter,
my condolences and prayers for all of you. He was a great man i felt safe because he kept crime at bay. When I heard of his passing it one time I wish the clock could turn back I was in a state of denial. My hero could not be dead. I had the utmost respect for him. God bless you all and give you the comfort that only he can give.

So many kind words have been posted through this guest book so there is not much left to say. It has been said. We too, will keep this family and his brothers and sisters in blue, in our prayers. May God keep you all in the hollow of his hands as you go through the funeral and continue through the years to come. The loss of such a fine Christian man, sheriff and Countryman will be felt for ages to come. God bless each of you.

His light beamed bright...and not just in West Texas...he added a beacon across our great nation and the world with his integrity and diligence. Truly he served honorably and was definitely a peacekeeper...blessed are the peacemakers...love to all that are mourning the absence of his earthly flame.

I found it fitting that Jesus was on earth 33 years. Our beloved Sheriff served 33 years. He was always so good to me! I know the angels are singing and dancing celebrating his Homecoming! I know his absence will cause a void in all of our lives. I also found it fitting that God chose to bring him home Memorial Day Weekend. I am so fortunate that he was my friend! To Patsy, the children, and the grandchildren - my deepest condolences. I thank God I got to visit with him recently. I truly treasured our friendship. I admired his gentleness especially coming from such a mountain of a man. My family is lifting up your family...and the other dedicated law enforcement members, veterans, and first responders who walked with him daily on his earthly assignment. I can hear Jesus saying "Welcome home Gary- thou good and faithful servant - well done!"

To say our family is saddened at the passing from this earth of our wonderful Sheriff and friend to us all, is to say the very least. I was only able to meet Gary once, but was able to tell him face to face how much we appreciate all he does for us. We will be hard pressed to find a more Godly man to carry on such a great legacy. Rest in sweet peace, Gary! We rejoice knowing that youve now heard our Lord say to you, Well done, my good and faithful servant. Enter in...

To the Painter family and Midland County Sheriff's Office - I offer my condolences to you all. I have no idea what Midland Country will do without Sheriff Painter, so I surely cannot imagine what his family and the Sheriff's Office will do without him. Sheriff Painter is the only sheriff some people have ever known in this county - which proves how important he was to us all. Sheriff Painter, you were a great man and one dedicated lawman to your community. Your presence will be forever missed. RIP sir. Someone will take watch for you.

My prayers are for Gary Painter's family and all his friends. Gary is leaving some big boots to fill. Midland County was blessed in having him as our sheriff. Since my late husband went to high school with Gary in Plainview and I had the privilege of working for Midland County I got to know him fairly well. He was a wonderful man and a tribute to the badge he wore. Gary, you will be missed.
