John Basham Obituary

John Carlos Basham, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the age of 45. John was born June 3, 1973 to Betty and Wylie Basham in Midland, Texas. He grew up being involved in soccer, football and Scouting where he became an Eagle Award Recipient. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and continued on to Texas A&M University. He eventually moved to Austin, Texas where he met his wife, Julie Simonds. They worked side by side in their shop at Texas Renaissance Festival and Sherwood Faire. John was a woodworker and made all the items sold in their business including games, swings, and chairs. He was known for his mischief making and was definitely a purveyor of fun! He is survived by his wife, Julie Simonds, his parents, Betty and Wylie G. Basham, his sister and brother-in-law, Darby and Chad Brown, his nephew and niece, Braden and Baryn Brown, his in-laws, Nancy and Mark Hollenbeck, sisters-in-law, Kris Broussard and Marissa Simonds, along with their children, Brendan and Nicholas Broussard, Shelby Simonds and Shayla Brown. Also survived by many cousins who loved him like their sibling. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clara and Wylie S. Basham, Beatrice Brufau and Jesse L. Sanchez, an uncle Jesse B. Sanchez, as well as his nephew, Braxton F. Brown. He was also pre-deceased by his grandmother-in-law, Verneeta Polovchak. Services will be held in Austin on Saturday, August 11, 2018 under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Hughes, Andy Fisher, Chad Brown, Braden Brown, Tina Garza Harris, Tom Spaulding, and Bryan van Alstyne. Memorials can be directed to Trinity School of Midland, 3500 W. Wadley Avenue, Midland, Texas 79707 or the Boy Scouts of America, 1101 W. Texas Avenue, Midland, Texas 79701.
