Arthur Fergerson Obituary

Arthur "Art" Fergerson

February 16, 1937 - June 14, 2025

Arthur Louis Fergerson was born in Warsaw, Missouri, to Homer and Marie Fergerson on February 16, 1937. He joined siblings; Robert, Bill, Percilla, Charlotte, Donna, Barbarba, Jimmy, and Wanda. Art proudly served his country for 2 deployments from 1959 to 1965. It was his honor to have assisted with the transfer of President Kennedys remains back to Washington D.C., in November 1963.

During his high school summers, Art traveled from Missouri to the Big Hole to assist with the hay season. It was then he discovered his lifelong love for Montana. After his honorable discharge from the military, he moved to Wisdom with his uncle Fergy, Aunt Irma Jane, and cousins; Melody, Marion, and Madelyn. Madelyn provided great comfort to Art in his final years. Art married Mariella Todorovich on July 21, 1965 – they enjoyed 56 years together. Together they raised three children; Chuck, Debbie, and Wanda.

Art worked for the State of Montana as a highway surveyor until his retirement at the age of 50.

In his younger days he enjoyed dealing cards at Fetty's, he particularly loved hunting with his good friend, Buzzy and his cousins, Henry and Marie. Art was known for his legendary, underhanded hurling of a fast-pitch softball. Leading numerous teams to a state championship. He was also a member of the Montana Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Having the distinction of being part of the only father/daughter duo to each bowl perfect 300 games. Art loved camping with family at Jerico Bay. After it was closed, he moved onto the Sportsman's, where he made many lifelong friends.

Art also loved the East Fork, where he and his grandson, Garrity, and hunting companion, Mariella spent many seasons hunting elk. One of his famous sayings was "the best camouflage is to sit down and be quiet." In his son's humble opinion, "he was the best damn elk hunter I ever met". In his later years, Art always looked forward to his "Missouri trips" with his favorite nephew, Deron Johnson, and staying with his brother, Jimmy.

He is survived by his son, Chuck (Mona); his daughters; Debbie (Steve) and Wanda (Mike); grandchildren; Shanda, TC, Ashleigh, Garrity, Dylan, and Taryn; great-grandchildren; Ian, Jace, and Wyatt; brother, Jimmy; sister, Percilla; his beloved dog, Pistol; special friends, Bill and Dawn Dee, Dale and Milann Combs, and Bruce Denney. A special thank you to his "hospice angels", Bonnie, Amy, and Leah for their kindness, love, and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be a pot luck held at The Sportsman Campground on July 13th at 1 p.m.
