Edward Zemanovich Obituary

Edward Zemanovich

AGE: 83 • Carteret

Edward Zemanovich, peacefully passed from this life on February 20, 2012, surrounded by his loving family in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center. Born in 1928, Edward grew up in Hillside, NJ where his parents John and Catherine Zemanovich ran a corner grocery store. A 1947 Hillside High School graduate, he excelled as a track sprinter and always enjoyed his high school's annual reunions. A true patriot, Edward honorably served his country in the Korean War as an active duty member of the U.S. Army, and consistently raised the flag at home. Edward, and his wife Marie, have lived in Carteret for 52 years where they raised their three children. A highly skilled tool maker with American Can Company, he retired in 1991. A devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Edward faithfully attended daily mass. As a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, in 2011 he was proudly bestowed the title of Fourth Degree Knight. "Eddie" played competitive horseshoes with the Knight's team and frequently volunteered for the Knight's many charity fundraisers. Edward especially enjoyed Carteret's Senior Citizen day and night groups, long walks, many summertime outdoor concerts and scenic drives, the longest of which was a three month trip driving across the country.

Edward is survived by Marie, his beloved wife of 56 years, and his loving children, Roy Zemanovich and wife Donna, Janet Gordon and husband Hugh, Gary Zemanovich and wife Denise. His seven cherished grandchildren Mark, Rachel, Matthew, Kevin, Kyle, Kristen and Lauren, were very special to him, as were his two adored great-grandchildren, Jacob and Adam. Edward is also survived by his two dear sisters, Mary Best, and Julia Hosford, and was recently predeceased by his brother George Zemanovic.

Funeral services will begin Thursday Feb. 23 at 9:30am from the Chubenko Funeral Home 625 Port Reading Avenue Port Reading followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial from St. Joseph Church, Carteret with interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be Wednesday 2pm to 4pm & 7pm to 9pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carteret's St. Joseph R.C.
