Laurent Fignon Obituary
France 2 television, which had employed Fignon as a commentator since 2006, said he died Tuesday.
Fignon won cycling's most prestigious race twice, in 1983 and 1984, but was defeated by Greg LeMond in arguably the event's greatest battle — in 1989.
LeMond's eight-second margin was the narrowest winning result in the history of the Tour.
Fignon announced in June 2009 that he had advanced cancer of the digestive system and was undergoing chemotherapy.

I was 21 years old in Massachussetts in 1983 when I sold my little used VW Beetle and took my summer job money and went to France to meet some exchange student friends in Bretagne for a reunion. But I made a point of being in Paris for the finals of the Tour de France. I was also a mediocre amateur bike racer but was passionate about the Tour. It was such a thrill to be there for the finals as I fought my way through the crowd to be near the finish line, and Laurent Fignon won and was a total champion. I always remember that moment, and the speed in which the riders made their way around the final laps. I was just thinking about him and that moment a few days ago where I live in Los Angeles. I found out about his passing while reading the Boston Globe online. Fignon was a real champion, you can't argue with that in light of all that passes in the sport nowadays. I'll never forget him for that moment in Paris, what a wonderful trip I took for an amazing $400. in my pocket back then, and his efforts remain, for me, a priceless memory. I learned of Mr. Fignon's death quite by accident; I was browsing the online obituaries of my local newspaper here at the Jersey shore, looking for details on the death of my friend Mark Catalano. Mark was a runner and triathlete and he was not of one of the toughest competitors I knew, but also one of the classiest and nicest guys around. He died suddenly on a training ride tuesday, at age 54, apparently from a heart condition, and I am heartbroken. So it gives me comfort to know that he will be joined at the pearly gates by a fellow cyclist and sportsman, someone he can shoot the bull with while he waits to be let in. My condolences to his family.

We are all from Crockett Estates and knew Adeline extremely well, as we've gone to garage sales, birthday parties and fast food restaurants.
MARIE said if it wasn't for her, she never would have had the chance to visit Bouchard Gardens.
JUANITA BARRETT (Montana) said she also
remembers going grocery shopping with her and how Adeline would look at cards
and write the verses in shorthand, that
she thought was really amazing!
WANDA EPPERS, remembers seeing them at
Burger King many times, so she visited
with them. Also they would both visit with each other on Wanda's patio and the dog would wait patiently on the grass until Adeline took her home.
JUDI MYERS, remembers meeting her when she was walking and Adeline would also
visit with her on the road, with her dog. (Was it Suzy)?
What I remember is when, Marie, Adeline
and myself would go to Mc Henry to the
Hair Salon, where only students would
work on us and it was much more reasonable than at the actual beauty parlors. Also, Adeline and I were really good friends. We would visit for hours out on my yard or sundeck.
And, every April 11th, I would sing to
her on her birthday. I remember Ryan, Amy and Erika as well.
The 5 of us want to extend our sincere
sympathy to you and yours. We all have
great memories of Adeline.

Sorry for you loss. In God's new world there will be no such thing as sickness and death. He promises no one will say I am sick. Jesus ability to heal sick persons when he was here on earth is a foreshadow of things to come for his earthly family.

RIP Laurent my deepest sympathy to the Fignon family on the loss of such a magnificant man. You were an inspiration
to millions and I am so sad you have lost your battle with cancer at just 50 years of age. I was fortunate enough to have met Laurent briefly after he had just arrived in Ireland to ride a Nissan Classis many years ago, I was standing outside a hotel near Dublin airport, Ireland and he stepped out of a courtesy car and smiled at me I wish I had managed to get an autograph at the time but I am so pleased to have had the chance to see you in person and will keep this memory of you. RIP Laurent.

I am presnetly surviving cancer, I have riden the Tourmalet, without the Tours, its winners and riders, I would never have done it, I remeber Laurent Fignon riding and giving his opinion in this years Tour de France. I am deeply saddend.

I met Laurent Fignon in 1983, when I had the honour to pick him up from the airport in Groningen, Holland, where he was riding a criterium in Surhuisterveen, after he had won the Tour de France. I remember him as a very friendly man, just a few years older than I was. I wish his family and friends a lot of strength in dealing with his loss.
