Owen McGowan Obituary
Hightstown - Owen F. McGowan, 85, of Hightstown, passed away peacefully at The Elms of Cranbury, Saturday, December 9, 2017. Born in New Brunswick, NJ he resided over 30 years in East Brunswick and most recently Hightstown. After achieving All-State honors at St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick, Owen attended Villanova University on a baseball scholarship. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed for over 30 years by Sunshine Biscuits as an Account Manager. He enjoyed playing golf with his son and friends and also spending time with his six grandchildren. Owen was a longtime member of the New Brunswick Elks.Predeceased by his parents, Florence and Owen McGowan and sister Sally Garrett, he is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Joan, two daughters, Sheila (and husband Michael Robbins), Pegeen (and husband Michael Ungvarsky), Son Owen (and wife Deborah), six grandchildren, Jack, Luke, Maeve, Matthew, Keira and Kelsey. Calling hours will be held from 4pm to 8pm, Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St., Hightstown, NJ 08520. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00pm Friday, Dec. 15, at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church, 251 Franklin Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. In lieu of flowers donations in Owen's name may be made to: National Right to Life, online at www.nrlc.org/donate or by calling 202-626-8813.
