Thomas Rutishauser Obituary

Thomas A. Rutishauser

Delray Beach, FL - Thomas A. Rutishauser, 74, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018 in Florida. Tom was born in Jersey City to Albert and Ruth Rutishuaser on May 26, 1944. The family then moved to Scotch Plains, where Tom grew up.

He was a graduate of Scotch Plains Fanwood High School, where he excelled in sports. He received varsity letters in Football, Basketball and Baseball. He later received a full football scholarship to Susquehanna University, where he was captain of the Football team and also played golf.

After college, Tom started his sales career with partners Joe Bartolo and the Spitzlei Brothers. The group founded SBR Sales. Because of his love of seafood, he opened South Avenue Seafood in Westfield, which he owned and operated successfully for over 10 years.

Tom loved golf, was a member of various golf clubs, loved boating and horse racing, and was part owner of several Standardbred horses.

He is survived by his three sons, Thomas Scott of Jupiter, Florida, Mark of Annandale, NJ and Todd of Chester, NJ; his granddaughter, Morgan and grandson, Ryan, both of Chester, NJ. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth DiGiorgio of Wall, NJ and his brother, Stephen of Florida; and his former wife, Marilyn Rutishauser of Annandale, NJ.

Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood on Friday from 4-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Marilyn, Ruth, Steve and Family,

I was saddened to learn of Tommy's passing. Tommy will always remain in my memory, both a great friend, and a great teammate. I always felt privileged to be part of his very wide circle of friends. His poise both on and off the playing field, was something we all admired and were envious of. We may have lost touch over the years, but I thought of him on a regular basis. Please extend my condolences to your extended family.

Sincerely,

Joe Sweeney
